“The Lottery team is proud to have topped $600 million in sales for the third time in our 33-year history!” said Lottery President and CEO, Rose Hudson. “We’re equally proud to have delivered nearly $205 million to the state treasury to support K-12 public education.”
“We’ve had a huge growth spurt the last four years,” said Harold Mays, director of the Illinois Lottery. “Everybody engages with the lottery. It’s a very simple proposition.” Instant scratch tickets accounted for $2 billion or 57% of the $3.6 billion in total Illinois lottery sales last year, according to the state’s annual report on wagering for fiscal year 2023.
“The Ohio Lottery has proven to be a leader in the lottery industry on many fronts for the last 50 years, but the mission to generate funding in support of education is what I’m most proud of, and we will continue to work for that mission for the next 50 years,” Ohio Lottery Director Michelle Gillcrist said. Watch Virginia Lottery Director Khalid Jonesannounce that the Virginia Lottery’s fiscal year 2024 profits exceeded $934 million, the highest in its 36-year history. All profits from the Lottery go towards supporting K-12 public education in the Commonwealth.
“We had an exceptional performance in fiscal year 2023, so we came into (fiscal year) 2024 facing a challenging year-over-year comparison,” John Martin, director of the state’s Lottery and Gaming Control Agency, said in a statement Friday. “Nonetheless, we had another strong year on a number of fronts.”
"The sale of Team Romania lottery tickets in record time confirms that the project was a great success and I would like to thank all those who were actively involved and, at the same time, all Romanians who understood that that way they can be with the Romanian Olympic team," Romanian Lottery General Manager Ionut-Valeriu Andrei is quoted as saying.
“The Iowa Lottery continues to deliver on its promise to responsibly generate revenue for important state causes,” Iowa Lottery CEO Matt Strawn said in the release. “I’m grateful to lottery players, retail partners, and our amazing team of public-minded professionals who produced these record results.”
Stéphane Pallez, Chairwoman and CEO of the FDJ Group, was reappointed to her role for a four-year term. Commenting on the results, she said they “confirmed the positive trend” and “digital momentum” seen since the start of the year.
