The Gambling Commission’s latest Gambling Survey for Great Britain show that lottery remains the top vertical for players in the country.
The Great British regulator’s 2024 Wave 2 results show overall participation in gambling in the last four weeks was 48 per cent – unchanged from throughout 2023.
Gambling participation was 28 per cent without lottery draws, which was the only form of participation for 20 per cent of people.
The latter figure and cohort were stable but down one per cent on Wave 1 2024.
There was an increase in the popularity of betting in Wave 2 compared to Wave 1. In its list of the most popular verticals, betting was 12 per cent in Wave 2 compared with nine per cent in Wave 1.
The online gambling participation rate fell slightly from Wave 1 to Wave 2 this year by one per cent to 37 per cent.
When lottery players are removed, this falls to 16 per cent – up one per cent on the 17 per cent recorded on the same metric in Wave 1.
The in-person gambling participation rate was the same in both waves this year – 29 per cent.
