New Hampshire Lottery surpasses 1 million sports bets

Executive Director Charlie McIntyre said the New Hampshire Lottery is proud to have reached the 1 million bet milestone in such a short time. “But, we firmly believe this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to sports betting,” McIntyre said. “Sports betting represents a natural evolution for the New Hampshire Lottery and we have a responsibility to maximize revenue to benefit our schools.”

CONCORD — In just six weeks, more than 1 million sports bets have been placed in the Granite State as the New Hampshire Lottery’s newest offering continues to pick up traction.

More than 36,923 registered users wagered more than $28.6 million since Dec. 30, 2019, when the New Hampshire Lottery and DraftKings launched sports betting. The one-millionth bet was placed Feb. 8.

“When it comes to sports betting, New Hampshire is carving out its status in granite as New England’s premier destination,” said Gov. Chris Sununu. “Players have already placed more than 1.15 million sports bets since the New Hampshire Lottery launched sports betting and with March Madness right around the corner, sports betting’s momentum shows no signs of dissipating. That’s great news for New Hampshire schools, as all sports betting profits directly benefit education in New Hampshire.”

McIntyre also pointed to the NCAA’s March Madness men’s basketball tournament as another opportunity to capitalize on demand for sports betting.

With the Maine Legislature recently failing to override Gov. Janet Mills’ veto of sports betting legislation, New Hampshire remains the only destination in northern New England offering legal sports betting.

New Hampshire communities have the option to put the question to voters as to whether to permit the operation of sports book retail locations within their communities. The New Hampshire Lottery is engaging towns with spring town meetings to provide information on the sports betting implementation process.

New Hampshire residents can download the DraftKings Sportsbook app to place wagers through DraftKings, the exclusive digital operator in New Hampshire.
