NY Sports Betting Handle Back Over $2 Billion As NFL Betting Returns

Empire State bettors sent NY sports betting handle back over $2 billion in September as NFL betting returned to the menu.

The latest state report shows $2.07 billion in total online NY sports betting volume, the second-highest monthly total ever. Only November 2023 saw more handle with $2.11 billion bet online.

September was the fourth time in market history the total monthly stake eclipsed $2 billion. It was also a 17% boost over the $1.76 billion bet online during the same month last year. Betting figures in New York typically jump up in September as NFL betting rejoins the calendar.

Big NY sports betting revenue figure

Like New York sports betting handle, sportsbook winnings also post the second-winningest month in market history.

Online operators cleared $204.7 million behind a combined win rate just shy of 10%. In January 2024, online NY sportsbooks kept $211.7 million from customers to set the current benchmark.

FanDuel held the most revenue with nearly $98 million in September winnings from $784.2 million in bets.

DraftKings tops September volume

DraftKings was the most-popular online NY sportsbook for the second consecutive month. In September, bettors sent $788.3 million through the app.

DraftKings held less than 9% for the month and cleared $69.7 million.

ESPN Bet NY sports betting debut

New York’s September report included the first four days of operations for ESPN Bet, which launched in New York on September 27.

Those four days produced $103,000 in revenue from $4 million in bets.

Penn Entertainment, which owns the ESPN Bet app, purchased Wynn Bet‘s NY sports betting license for $25 million earlier this year.
