English-language version of the market vision on gambling
The Kansspelautoriteit (Ksa, Netherlands Gambling Authority) has published an English-language version of a document published earlier this year: Marktvisie kansspelen. Marktordening en markttoezicht vanuit de publieke belangen (Market vision on gambling: Market regulation and market surveillance from the perspective of public interests).
In this vision document, the Ksa elaborates on how the public objectives of Dutch gambling policy (protecting consumers, preventing gambling addiction and combating illegality and criminality) can be optimally achieved through market regulation and market surveillance. The Ksa believes that cross-border cooperation is important. This year, online gambling will become legal in the Netherlands. The operators are often internationally operating businesses. One of the reasons for translating the market vision on gambling was to facilitate an optimal exchange of information with regulators abroad. The Ksa is a member of the Gaming Regulators European Forum (GREF). Ksa president René Jansen is vice president of GREF.
Vision on the regulation of gambling markets
The market vision on gambling resulted from the first evaluation of the Ksa in 2017. It was recommended at the time that the Ksa, which was established in 2012, develop a vision on the regulation of the various gambling markets. The market vision on gambling, which can be used by policymakers to make decisions, was presented to the Minister for Legal Protection, who is responsible for gambling policy. It is also used by the Ksa for monitoring and enforcement purposes.
