KSA outlines aims of revised Remote Gambling Bill in annual report

The Netherlands Gambling Authority (KSA) has published its 2019 annual report and 2020 monitoring report, outlining the aims of the revised Remote Gambling Bill passed in February 2019.

The bill, due to be introduced in January 2021, legalises and regulates online gambling and sets requirements for responsible gambling and addiction prevention.

The report shows the KSA imposed a record amount of fines in 2019, with €3.5m ($3.8m) attributed for the illegal provision of online gaming.

The Monitoring Report outlines the actions the KSA expects licensed operators to take to protect vulnerable individuals, such as taking sufficient measures to ensure young people cannot access gambling offerings.

The KSA has also added the use of visible age verification and ensures its commitment to reducing illegal unlicensed offerings aimed towards Dutch customers.

René Jansen, Chairman of the Board of Directors for the KSA, said: "The ban on online gambling can hardly be enforced anymore.

"In a regulated market, the KSA is much better able to protect consumers, because gambling providers are supervised.

"The fact consumers benefit from strict, clear requirements in the field of addiction prevention needs hardly any further explanation. People enjoy gambling, but gambling is also risky."
