Montevideo, March 15, 2019. www.cibelae.net The National Department of Lotteries and Quinielas blocked 218 online betting sites that did not have the corresponding authorization to operate in Uruguay. During the week, new unauthorized sites will be blocked and the figure will reach 260.
This measure, developed by the National Lotteries and Quinielas Directorate since 2018 in compliance with Law No. 19,535 and its Regulatory Decree No. 366/017, has the purpose of protecting gambling or legal online gambling. In Uruguay, the only site enabled is the sports betting called Supermatch.

Part of the proceeds from the exploitation of the only authorized game goes to infrastructure projects for the training divisions of the AUF and OFI

Luis Gama,  National Director of Lotteries and Quinielas, expressed on the matter: "Online betting sites not enabled do not generate any kind of benefit for the country. However, of the funds collected through Supermatch, the State renounces part of the VAT and transfers it to projects whose beneficiaries are the young members of the training divisions of the clubs affiliated with the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) and the Organization of Indoor Soccer (OFI) ".

At this moment, there are more than 33 million pesos available for each organization that will be invested in different projects. Before awarding the funds, the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the National Department of Lotteries and Quinielas require OFI and AUF to present infrastructure projects that improve the conditions of the clubs, either in Montevideo or in the interior of the country. So far, the affiliated clubs of OFI have submitted 85 projects, while the AUF has not yet presented any.

Some projects that have been developed were -among others- the construction of changing rooms and study rooms for juveniles and the lighting of courts. "There are many projects and in all cases we seek to promote sports and improve the locative conditions of the training divisions of clubs throughout the country," said Gama.
