UK: The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has announced Fiona Twycross appointed Minister for Gambling

It had been expected that Stephanie Peacock would take on the role.

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has announced its new ministerial team, after Labour was voted into power a month ago.

It had been known already that Lisa Nandy was to lead the DCMS ministerial team as the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, and now the Department has confirmed the personnel who will support her.

Chris Bryant has been handed the role of Minister for Creative Industries, Arts and Tourism, Stephanie Peacock will be the new Minister for Sport, Media, Civil Society and Youth, while Fiona Twycross has been confirmed as the new Minister for Gambling.

Shortly after Labour’s election win, Peacock was named as the DCMS’ Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, and it had been widely anticipated that she would be handed the role of Gambling Minister as well, having previously served as the Shadow Minister for Sport, Gambling and Media when the Conservative Party was in power.

Though Twycross will be the Gambling Minister, it does note that among the areas that Peacock is responsible for is gambling (in the House of Commons) so she is likely to still have influence over the matter of gambling in the UK.

Gambling Insider recently delved into what the new Labour Government under the guidance of Keir Starmer would mean for the gambling industry in the UK, especially as the White Paper enters a crucial stage in the journey to full implementation.
