New guidelines on the promotion of gambling offers in France have been issued by the regulator, L’Autorite Nationale des Jeux (ANJ).

Advertising standards are currently under review in France and ANJ has taken the opportunity to review "commercial offers" such as bonuses, free bets and welcome offers.

Said the ANJ: “Less than a month before the opening of the World Cup, we wish to improve the transparency of these practices and moderate them to protect players.”

The changes include guidance on the duration of the offer, the deposit and betting requirements and how the offer will be given, in the form of real money or game credits.

“We are regularly contacted by players who complain about the lack of clarity of these commercial offers, which can also be the source of many disputes. As such, terms such as ‘free’ or ‘offered’ can be used incorrectly.”

The ANJ is demanding that operators give full access to the terms and conditions. The regulator plans to monitor the degree to which promotional offers are made.
