A measure to investigate whether public schools could benefit from state lottery revenues is stalled at the Legislature.

The Senate Education Committee postponed a decision on a resolution calling for a study identifying ways to address funding issues for public schools.

The proposal cites the chronic underfunding of public schools, which is partly due to reliance on the state’s general fund.

The measure would have started a study to find how much a state lottery or 1% county real property tax would provide for public education.

However, testimony from the Legislative Reference Bureau noted it would not be capable of giving an accurate projection of what revenues from those sources would be.
