Tennessee bill would remove cash-only obstacle when purchasing lottery tickets

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) - A billed filed by Tennessee legislators would make it easier to purchase lottery tickets.

How many times have you wanted to get in on the latest Powerball craze only to realize once in line you don't have any cash?

Under current law, all lottery tickets can only be purchased in-person and only with cash.

SB 1996/HB 2057 is sponsored by Franklin's Senator Jack Johnson and Representative Charles Sargent.

The bill authorizes the use of money orders, debit cards, and prepaid gift cards to purchase lottery tickets.

The bill was introduced in both houses on Tuesday and has already passed on first consideration in the Senate.
