Minnesota senator eyes 'safest' sports betting bill in US

A senator in Minnesota, US, believes the sports betting bill he plans to reintroduce this year would be the “safest sports wagering bill in the nation” if it passes. Efforts to regulate sports wagering in the state in the previous legislative session failed, but as reported by KFGO, Senator Matt Klein will try again.

He said he has put some “real safeguards” into the bill to try to answer concerns about gambling problems and financial stability when it comes to the risks of gambling.

He added that “people are already doing it in illegal and unregulated markets, usually offshore markets,” activity which is “only going to increase” without proper regulation.

KFGO reports that Senator John Marty will hold a preliminary sports betting hearing this week, a week before the session formally opens.
