CLEVELAND, OH – The Ohio Lottery is proud to announce that Liz Alex, Human Resources Director for the Ohio Lottery Commission, is a recipient of the 2021 Powers Award from the National Association of State and Provincial Lotteries (NASPL).
The NASPL Powers Awards are presented each year in recognition of the significant contributions lottery and vendor employees have made through exceptional job performance. The awards are named in honor of the late Edward J. Powers – one of the founders of NASPL who spent more than 25 years in the lottery industry helping to define the most effective organizational structures that have become a blueprint for today’s lotteries.
Liz Alex has been with the agency for nearly 27 years, serving as HR Director since 2009. Her expertise and knowledge were critical in the past year as the agency navigated the pandemic and its impact on the Ohio Lottery’s 385 employees and the lottery industry.
Alex and her staff enacted the agency’s Business Continuity Plan within days, successfully transitioning employees to work from home without interrupting business.
“Over the past fiscal year, the Ohio Lottery has recorded record sales and profits. This would not be possible without the strong administrative support from Human Resources to ensure departments were appropriately staffed, employee morale remained high, and discipline and accountability were enforced. Liz is undoubtedly one of the unsung heroes of this success, “ Ohio Lottery Director Pat McDonald said.
In a time of uncertainty, she provided quick, clear, and transparent communication to senior management regarding interpreting, implementing, and complying with new state and federal guidelines related to the pandemic.
Alex, who is a strong believer in the benefits of teleworking, recently authored the agency’s new teleworking policy that will allow the Ohio Lottery to permanently incorporate a hybrid approach into its operations and culture, as well as result in hundreds of thousands of dollars in potential annual savings.
The winners were announced on October 5, 2021 at the virtual NASPL DeskCon 2021.
