Nederlandse Loterij has appointed a new chairman of the Supervisory Board: Alexander Pechtold

During the shareholders' meeting on April 22, Alexander Pechtold was appointed chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Dutch Lottery, the company has announced . Pechtold succeeds Jan Loorbach whose term of office had expired.

Pechtold was mayor of Wageningen from 2003 to 2005. After Thom de Graaf resigned from the Balkenende II cabinet, Pechtold became Minister of Government Reform and Kingdom Relations. Pechtold was chairman of D66 in the House of Representatives from 2006 to 2018.

In addition to his role as chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Dutch Lottery, Pechtold is general director of the Centraal Bureau Rijvaardigheidsbewijzen and is a process supervisor in the renovation of the Binnenhof. In addition, he presented the television program De Achterkant van het Equal on NPO 2 this year .

Pechtold was trained as an art historian and during his political career worked at an auction house, among others.

Alexander Pechtold once again emphasized the ambition of the Dutch Lottery to become a major player in the Dutch online gambling market upon his appointment:

The Dutch Lottery is a private company with three shareholders:

  • the State of the Netherlands (represented by the Ministry of Finance)

  • Stichting Aanwending Loterijgelden Nederland (ALN).

ALN unites 18 charities in the field of health, exercise and welfare, namely: the Aidsfonds, the Burns Foundation, the Diabetes Fund, HandicapNL, the Heart Foundation, the Brain Foundation, the Kansfonds, KNCV Tuberculosis Fund, KWF Cancer Prevention, the Lung Fund , the Maag Lever Darm Foundation, MIND, the Kidney Foundation, the Orange Fund, the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds, the Princess Beatrix Spier Fund, ReumaNederland, and vfonds.

The Dutch Lottery not only organizes the Staatsloterij in the Netherlands, but is also the company behind the Lotto, EuroJackpot, the Million Game, Lucky Day, the scratch cards that you will find at the cigar farmer's counter, and the TOTO .

The company has applied for a license with the Gaming Authority and wants to be one of the first companies in the Netherlands with a legal online casino from 1 October 2021. In addition to the games they already offer (for example scratch cards, betting on sports via TOTO, and Keno via Lucky Day), they want to offer a wide range of online games of chance.

The task of the Supervisory Board is to supervise the management of the Nederlandse Loterij and the general course of affairs. The Supervisory Board also advises the board of the Dutch Lottery. In addition to Chairman Pechtold, Jan Albers, Annelies van Zutphen, Frida van den Maagdenberg, and Marjan Rintel are members of the Supervisory Board of the Dutch Lottery.
