New Hampshire Lottery Hires Daniel Maloney

The New Hampshire Lottery has announced the hiring of Daniel Maloney as its first Director of Sports Betting, with prospects for sports betting expanding across New Hampshire.

In the position, Maloney will lead strategies and executions for sports betting revenues, and will identify potential partners. Maloney, originally from New York, has extensive gaming regulation and enforcement experience, most recently working at the Nevada Gaming Control Board as an intern. By August 2020, Maloney began his tenure with the New Hampshire Lottery.

“We are pleased to welcome Daniel Maloney to our team in this critical new strategic role to help us continue to implement and expand upon our already successful sports betting infrastructure,” said Charlie McIntyre, Executive Director, New Hampshire Lottery.

“We are proud of our initial success with sports betting and we have every expectation that we will continue to build momentum. Danny will play a major role in our efforts to maximize this channel in support of education in New Hampshire. The future is bright for sports betting in New Hampshire.”

As part of the 2019 legislation setting up a framework for sports betting in New Hampshire, the Director of Sports Betting role was established. In the Granite State, the position supervises all facets of sports betting and closely communicates with partners, including DraftKings and physical sportsbook sites, to facilitate opportunities for sports betting and to ensure compliance with state regulations.

In December 2019, the New Hampshire Lottery introduced mobile sports betting with DraftKings, and more than 40,000 sports fans have registered to position wagers in New Hampshire since that time. More than 4.7 million bets worth more than $140 m have been made by players.

Over the past two months, the New Hampshire Lottery and DraftKings have launched two physical sportsbooks: Manchester’s DraftKings Sportsbook at Manchester’s Filotimo Casino & Bar and Seabrook’s DraftKings Sportsbook at The Brook.

Maloney said: “I am extremely excited to be able to step into this new position with the New Hampshire Lottery. I could not imagine a better role for myself and I look forward to working collaboratively with the New Hampshire Lottery team and its partners to continue to build on the Granite State’s reputation as the go-to destination for sports betting in the northeast.

“With DraftKings’s easy-to-use app providing countless opportunities for sports wagering in an engaging platform, coupled with world-class physical destinations, New Hampshire features an unparalleled sports betting experience.”

Maloney, now based in Manchester, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Queens College in New York, a Ph.D. degree in Law from Seton Hall University of Law, and a Master of Law degree in Gaming and Regulation from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, William S. Boyd School of Law, as well as 12 years of contract and compliance law experience.
