SC Lottery’s Communications Coordinator Wins Industry’s Top Award
COLUMBIA, SC (July 29, 2024) – The South Carolina Education Lottery is pleased to announce that Julie Huffman, Communications Coordinator, was honored with the lottery industry’s top award. Huffman received the 2024 Powers Award at a North American Association of State and Provincial Lottery’s ceremony held last week in Omaha, Nebraska.
The Powers Award is presented each year to exceptional individuals in the lottery industry whose critical thinking, creativity, intelligence and dedication to their trade have made a lasting impact. The award honors the late Edward J. Powers, the “Father of U.S. Lotteries,” who in his 25+ year career built the framework and set the standards for today’s lottery operations.
Huffman has been employed with the Lottery for 17 years and receives a majority of her recognition as an on-screen draw talent. In January, when the Lottery drew 4-4-4-4 for the first time, Huffman was the first to greet the record number of winners who visited the Lottery’s Claims Center. Huffman has a true knack for engaging winners to tell their stories on our social media accounts. In February, Huffman recorded her 21st YouTube episode of “Ticket Crafting with Julie,” where her artistic ability for remaking everyday objects out of voided lottery tickets was brought to life.

“I want to congratulate Julie on this well-deserved honor,” said Dolly Garfield, Executive Director of the South Carolina Education Lottery. “Julie’s abundance of creativity, her charisma, her flair, and her dedication to the Lottery’s mission, all make her a worthy recipient of this distinguished award. We are delighted to see her hard work nationally recognized.”
