Tennessee Lottery funding for Education continues to Grow, 3rd Quarter brings total raised to $6.37 Billion

LOTTERY FUNDING FOR EDUCATION CONTINUES TO GROW, 3RD QUARTER BRINGS TOTAL RAISED TO $6.37 BILLION

Nashville — The Tennessee Education Lottery (TEL) closed out its third quarter and announced results today, with the total raised for education-related programs in the state now at $6.37 billion. Highlights from the period of January 1, 2022 through March 31 include:

--The quarter was the second highest third quarter, just behind the same period last year.
--To date, all three quarters in this Fiscal Year have exceeded $500 million in gross revenues, which is the first time that has happened since the Lottery’s launch in 2004.
--Lottery for Education proceeds during this quarter were more than $114 million.

Additionally, details about the funds generated by the TEL since inception include:

--More than $25.6 billion in gross ticket revenues
--More than $17.5 billion in prizes won by players
--More than $1.67 billion paid in retailer commissions
“All of us at the TEL are proud of these results,” said Lottery President and CEO Rebecca Paul. “Students and families across the state continue to benefit from scholarships, grants and after-school programs funded with Lottery dollars, and we are committed to working hard to continue this momentum.”

Since the TEL's inception, more than 1.7 million scholarships and grants have been awarded with Lottery funds. More than 151,000 Tennessee students benefited in the 2020-2021 school year alone.
