New Fast Play games start Sunday in North Carolina

− Fans of jackpots have four new games offering chances to win one instantly −

RALEIGH – The Education Lottery launches four new Fast Play games Sunday that give those who enjoy playing to win jackpots more chances to win one instantly.

Fast Play is the lottery’s newest offering of a jackpot game. While Mega Millions and Powerball each offer jackpots in two drawings a week, the always-growing, rolling Fast Play jackpots can be won instantly when someone buys a ticket at a store.

Players have won jackpots 23 times, with prizes ranging up to $691,417, since Fast Play launched in September. Prizes in the game average $1.2 million a week. The latest win came Saturday at a New Bern convenience store where someone won a $373,741 jackpot on a $5 Rockin Bingo ticket.

Games are easy to play. There are no play slips to fill out or numbers to select, and no drawings to wait on. Players can see immediately if they won, using “how to play” information printed on each ticket. A how to play video is also available here.

Mark Michalko, executive director of the Education Lottery, said the games have proved popular in their first months of play and are helping the lottery increase its sales this year and raise additional monies for education.

“You will now have eight Fast Play games to choose from,” said Michalko. “These are exciting new games because the jackpot goes up with each ticket purchased until someone wins it. It’s great to see those who like lottery games having fun and winning nice prizes.

As of 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, the Fast Play jackpot stood at $386,805, and growing.

The four new games are two $2 games, Bingo Bucks and Frosty 50s, and two $5 games, Blizzard Bingo and Red Hot Numbers.

Odds of winning prizes vary depending on the type of game and its prize. The odds of winning the Fast Play jackpot are 1 in 240,000.

Ticket sales from Fast Play games make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $725 million a year for education. For details on how lottery funds have helped all of North Carolina’s 100 counties, click on the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website.
