Maryland: Rocky Gap Casino brings in close to $5 million in May

Maryland Lottery and Gaming this week announced that May gaming revenues for the state’s six casinos were $152.3 million. “As Maryland’s casinos reach full development of their respective markets, we will begin to see more volatility in month-over-month results …,” said Maryland Lottery and Gaming Director Gordon Medenica. “We fully expect long-term growth to continue to be positive.”

Maryland Lottery and Gaming this week  announced that May gaming revenues for the state’s six casinos were $152.3 million.

The total represents a $4.2 million decrease compared to the May 2018 total.

Contributions to the state of Maryland from May casino gaming revenue totaled $63.6 million, including $47.7 million for the Education Trust Fund. Casino gaming revenues also support local communities and jurisdictions where the six casinos are located, as well as Maryland’s horse racing industry.

“As Maryland’s casinos reach full development of their respective markets, we will begin to see more volatility in month-over-month results …,” said Maryland Lottery and Gaming Director Gordon Medenica. “We fully expect long-term growth to continue to be positive.”

Maryland has six privately owned casinos that offer both slot machines and table games: MGM National Harbor in Prince George’s County; Live! Casino & Hotel in Anne Arundel County; Horseshoe Casino Baltimore in Baltimore City; Hollywood Casino Perryville in Cecil County; Ocean Downs Casino in Worcester County; and Rocky Gap Casino Resort in Allegany County.

Four of the six casinos saw year-over-year increases compared to their May 2018 gaming revenue totals:

• Rocky Gap Casino Resort (665 slot machines, 19 table games): $4.9 million in May 2019, an increase of $7,943 from May 2018.

• MGM National Harbor (3,136 slot machines, 199 table games): $59.1 million in May 2019, a decrease of $3.2 million from May 2018.

• Live! Casino & Hotel (3,818 slot machines, 197 table games) : $53.5 million in May 2019, an increase of $1.5 million from May 2018. 

• Horseshoe Casino Baltimore (2,203 slot machines, 147 table games): $20.6 million in May 2019, a decrease of $3.5 million from May 2018.

• Hollywood Casino Perryville (822 slot machines, 21 table games): $7 million in May 2019, an increase of $126,335 from May 2018.

• Ocean Downs Casino (874 slot machines, 18 table games): $7.2 million in May 2019, an increase of $804,891 from May 2018.
