State Rep. wants a new lottery game to send proceeds to assist military veterans in Georgia

A Habersham County state Rep says an idea for a new Georgia lottery is worth considering: Clarkesville Republican Terry Rogers says he’s open to the recommendations of a Senate study committee that wants a new lottery game to send proceeds to assist military veterans in Georgia.

Attempts to pass bills have failed in other states, including Florida, Indiana, New York, Pennsylvania, and Vermont.

Critics are concerned about how new games might affect Lottery funding for education.

If Georgia lawmakers approve the Senate committee’s recommendations in the legislative session that begins one week from today, revenues generated by the new lottery games would go to the state Department of Veterans Services, which would administer and distribute funding to qualified service agencies.
