West Virginians could be all set for mobile betting to make its entry into the state, following a deal that has been struck by The Greenbrier Resort and FanDuel, reports US media outlets.
Initially revealed by NBC’s Pro Football Talk, the deal marks the first in the state after fresh regulations were approved last week at an emergency meeting of the West Virginia Lottery Commission, with hopes that a launch can be facilitated by Autumn, in time for the new NFL season.

The agreement between Greenbrier and FanDuel, who one month ago merged its operations with the US-facing arm of Paddy Power Betfair, will see punters enabled to utilise a sportsbook branded by the daily fantasy sports operator in a retail capacity, at The Greenbrier’s casino, as well as via online and mobile devices.
In a statement Matt King, FanDuel CEO, is quoted as stating: “We are honoured to be chosen to provide sports wagering services at The Greenbrier, an iconic resort in the US.”
“As we work towards building out a top sports betting product for the upcoming NFL season, we look forward to bringing West Virginia residents, sports fans, and visitors to The Greenbrier the best interactive sports experience on the market.”
It is thought that individuals physically located within the state boundaries, both residents and non-residents, will be able to place bets on FanDuel’s app, whilst betting will also be available at the state’s four racetrack casinos in addition to The Greenbrier’s on-site casino.
An initial target could see wagers being placed by the start of the NFL season, with The Greenbrier, who have previously seen the New Orleans Saints hold a training camp at its facilities, currently hosting the Houston Texans for the second year running.
