LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - The Kentucky Lottery's board of directors reported record-breaking sales for the first part of the 2018 fiscal year.
The sales were announced during Friday's Kentucky Lottery Corporation board meeting.
Vice President and Corporate Controller Maggie Garrison said year-to-date sales for the lottery were at $670.9 million, a 4.9 percent increase from the 2017 fiscal year. Powerball sales are up $6.9 million from previous years, and Mega Millions sales are up $5 million.
“We ended February less than one half of one percent behind our budgeted sales figure, but March has really helped improve an already healthy bottom line,” CEO Tom Delacenserie said at the board meeting.
Both the Powerball and Mega Millions games saw jackpots over $400 million during March, with the Mega Millions jackpot climbing to $421 million ahead of Friday night's drawing. The jackpot is the fifth largest in Mega Millions history.
Tickets for Friday night's drawing can be purchased for $2 until 10 p.m.
