Lennart Käll decides to step down as CEO of Svenska Spel

After almost seven years as CEO of Svenska Spel, Lennart Käll has decided to leave the role.

The tasks given to Lennart Käll when he came to the job in 2011 are now completed, and the transition to the upcoming gambling licence market is an ideal time to hand over responsibility for Svenska Spel to a new CEO.

In March 2017, the national gambling commission presented its proposal for how a licensed market for gambling could be introduced in Sweden. According to the time scale, a proposition for new gambling legislation will be adopted by Swedish parliament in June and will come into force on 1 January 2019.

“Svenska Spel is facing an unregulated gambling market and new challenges. The work to adapt the organisation to the new gambling market is continuing according to plan. We are well prepared and have a positive view of the obligation to compete under identical terms. This is a good time for a new CEO to join and continue to develop Svenska Spel,” says Lennart Käll, CEO of Svenska Spel.

“We would like to thank Lennart for the excellent work he has achieved in his seven years as CEO. Svenska Spel – the Swedish people’s gambling company – is well prepared for the re-regulation that will hopefully come into force at the beginning of next year. We have begun the recruitment process for Lennart’s successor, and this will be complete in spring,” says Erik Strand, Chairman of Svenska Spel.

When Lennart Käll became CEO of Svenska Spel in 2011, the task was clear: to position Svenska Spel as a responsible gambling company and strengthen its position as an experienced company with attractive gambling products and services.

“Together with my management and other staff, I’m proud of what we have achieved together at Svenska Spel during my time as CEO. We have delivered the assigned task from the owners and shown that gambling companies can combine responsibility and growth. Svenska Spel is well equipped for the new gambling market,” says Lennart Käll.

Lennart Käll has informed Chairman Erik Strand that he is to leave Svenska Spel. He will transfer to his own business and board duties. Lennart Käll will remain as CEO until otherwise communicated, until summer 2018 at the latest.
