Mass Lottery to Celebrate 7th Annual National Lottery Week July 14-18
The Massachusetts State Lottery, in collaboration with lotteries across the United States and Canada, will be observing the seventh annual National Lottery Week, a celebration of lotteries throughout North America in acknowledgement of their collective contributions to the communities they serve, from July 14-18.
The Mass Lottery established the first National Lottery Day on July 17, 2018, providing customers and retail partners with a day of special promotions for lottery products, while celebrating the Lottery as a valuable source of essential unrestricted local aid in the Commonwealth since selling its first ticket in 1972. In 2019, the Mass Lottery and other lotteries collaborated to create the first National Lottery Week.
“Seven years ago, the Mass Lottery created Lottery Day so we could have the space to properly thank those who are at the heart of our work: our loyal players, our dedicated retailers, and the communities we support,” said Mark William Bracken, Executive Director of the Mass Lottery. “We also extend our gratitude to our industry colleagues across the U.S. and Canada for their collaborative spirit in making this celebration an annual tradition.”
Over the course of the week, the Mass Lottery will utilize social media to highlight multiple themes, including winner stories, the Lottery’s retail partners, responsible gambling, and the support the Lottery provides to all 351 cities and towns. Appreciation of lottery customers will be celebrated with the Summer Words & Summer Cash Bash.
Beginning on National Lottery Day, Thursday, July 17 through Wednesday, August 20, daily ‘Summer Words’ keywords will be printed on all draw and monitor game tickets for players to participate in the Mass Lottery’s ‘Summer Words’ promotion. Players can enter these daily keywords on the Lottery’s website for a chance to win cash prizes. The promotion culminates with the Summer Cash Bash event at the Lottery’s Regional Office in Worcester on Thursday, August 28, where players can win cash prizes just for attending. At the Summer Cash Bash, five players will spin the giant wheel for a chance to win up to $100,000 with a minimum prize of $10,000.
Complete details about this promotion and event are available at masslottery.com.
Approximately 98 percent of funds generated from Mass Lottery games go directly back into the economy through prizes (73 percent), unrestricted aid for cities and towns (19 percent), and retailer commissions and bonuses (6 percent). The remainder supports Lottery operations, providing direct and indirect employment opportunities, and other benefits.
Since selling its first ticket in 1972, the Mass Lottery has generated over $160 billion in revenues, awarded over $113 billion in prizes, returned over $34 billion in net profit to the Commonwealth for unrestricted local aid provided to cities and towns, and paid over $9 billion in commissions and bonuses to its statewide network of retailers.
Throughout the country, lottery proceeds are dedicated to a variety of important causes, including local aid, education, healthcare, environmental conservation, and infrastructure development. In fiscal year 2024, U.S. lotteries generated more than $30.6 billion their beneficiaries.
