South Carolina Education Lottery raises over $500M for fifth straight year

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - The South Carolina Education Lottery says it has raised over half-a-billion dollars for state students for the fifth year in a row.

The lottery said Tuesday that $546.8 million dollars in earnings are now being reported for 2025. Officials added the lottery has now generated $8.9 billion since it began in 2002.

The ongoing popularity of scratch-off tickets and increased interest in the state’s own Palmetto 5 cash game all contributed to end-year results, the lottery says.

“On behalf of the Board, we are proud of what the lottery was able to achieve this year. We have made another significant investment that will have a positive and lasting impact in our state for years to come,” SC Lottery Commission Chairman Sam Litchfield said in a statement.
