MEGA MILLIONS DRAW GAME GETS NEW LOOK, NEW PRIZES, NEW PRICE

“For quite some time, the national draw games like Mega Millions and Powerball have been very similar to one another,” West Virginia Lottery Director John Myers said. “These changes to Mega Millions will give us more variety in our game menu and allow players who enjoy jackpot-style and draw games more options between our in-state and national offerings. We do want to remind everyone to please play responsibly.”

MEGA MILLIONS DRAW GAME GETS NEW LOOK, NEW PRIZES, NEW PRICE

Charleston, W.Va. – National draw game Mega Millions is getting a spring makeover. Beginning April 5, the game will move to a $5 price point, but all prize amounts will increase, including a starting jackpot of $50 million and a minimum win of $10.

Mega Millions will now feature bigger prizes, larger and faster-growing jackpots, and a built-in multiplier feature, with the minimum prize jumping from $2 to $10. In simple terms, this means there will no longer be breakeven prizes- if you win on a $5 Mega Millions ticket, your minimum prize is at least $10.

Non-jackpot prizes will range from $10 million to $2 million  in the new format. The game will still feature choosing five numbers from 1-70 for the white balls, but the Mega Ball will now only be from 1 to 24.

Each $5 Mega Millions play will include a multiplier of 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X, or 10X, which will be automatically generated and placed to the right of your Mega Ball number. If you match win any non-jackpot prize, you’ll multiply the base amount of your win using the multiplier that appears on the winning line of your ticket.

Mega Millions drawings are held at 11 PM ET on Tuesdays and Fridays. For more information or questions, please see the Frequently Asked Questions page, which can be found at wvlottery.com under News and Events.
