It’s been 32 years since its inception and now the Nebraska Lottery hits $1 Billion distributed to the state

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - It’s been 32 years since its inception and now the Nebraska Lottery has surpassed a large mark in funds it’s given back to the state.

More than $1 billion has been distributed between different state beneficiaries.

About 44% get split between education and environment while 10% goes to the state fair. The rest goes to the Gamblers' Assistance and the General Fund.

“It’s great for when I get to go out and see, you know, like especially projects like with the Nebraska Environmental Trust where you get to see that money that’s being spent on the ground, really helping to improve our environment, the natural resources in our state,” said Neil Watson, Nebraska Lottery.

On the other side of the gaming table, casinos across the state have paid out massive amounts to the state.

From January 2024 through November, the state has received $25.5 million through the gaming tax with a portion that goes back to the city and county where the casino is located.
