Delaware’s Gaming Handle Breaks Six-Year Record for Two Consecutive Months
In October 2024, Delaware’s total gaming handle reached $24,502,521, surpassing the previous record of $24,206,090 set in November 2018, five months after the state launched its legal sportsbooks in June that year. However, October’s milestone was short-lived as November 2024 saw an even higher handle of $26,390,185, based on Delaware Lottery Games report. More than half of the handle in both months came from bets placed at Delaware Park, highlighting its dominant position in the state’s gaming landscape.
Gross gaming revenue did not approach historical highs. The highest gross revenue remains $8,162,861 from November 2020. In comparison, October 2024 revenue was $1,845,797, while November 2024 revenue increased to $4,378,351. Tax revenue also rose significantly from $347,985 in October to $1,686,203 in November, although still below November 2018’s figures of $998,477 in taxes and $1,608,339 in gross revenue.
Consistent Handle Growth
Delaware’s total gaming handle has been on an upward trajectory for four consecutive months. Starting at $9,927,116 in July 2024, the handle steadily increased to $10,259,279 in August, then more than doubled to $23,242,735 in September, before reaching record-breaking levels in October and November.
The last time Delaware experienced such sustained growth was during the post-lockdown recovery in 2020, from July to November. The consistent rise reflects strong engagement among bettors and the growing popularity of gaming options across the state.
