KAMPALA, Uganda, 26th July 2024 – ITHUBA Uganda, the official operator of the Uganda National Lottery, proudly announced the grand launch of the Uganda National Lottery, which took place on Friday, 26 July at Speke Resort in Munyonyo, Kampala. This prestigious event was attended by key stakeholders and dignitaries from Uganda and across Africa. The launch of the Uganda National Lottery heralded a new era of hope and transformative change for Ugandans. With an initial investment of USD 14 million, ITHUBA Uganda aimed to provide a platform that not only offered the chance to change individual lives but also promised to significantly bolster national revenue and drive economic growth.
The official launch marked a pivotal opportunity for individual Ugandans and the nation as a whole. By generating significant revenue, the National Lottery will support key sectors such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, and sports, ensuring continuous investment in Uganda's sustained development.
"Each game presents a distinct opportunity to dream, participate, and potentially transform lives, offering excitement and the chance to win with every ticket," said Michelle Van Trotsenburg, Head of Marketing and Corporate Affairs at ITHUBA. The lottery, which began operations in June, included popular games such as LOTTO, POWERBALL, DAILY LOTTO, and SPORTSTAKE 10, with an estimated UGX 2.8 billion in jackpots up for grabs.
Chairman of ITHUBA Uganda, Bob Kabonero, extended heartfelt thanks to the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board for their unwavering support and guidance, and to the Ministry of Finance for their invaluable assistance in securing the license. "Thank you to our telecommunications partners, local businesses, communities, and the media. Your support is instrumental as we work towards bringing meaningful change and transformation to Uganda," said Kabonero.
Kabonero emphasized ITHUBA's commitment to upholding international standards of excellence, mirroring the success of the National Lottery in South Africa while preserving Uganda's unique spirit. "We have endeavored to uphold international best practices to ensure our operations are transparent and promote significant benefits that contribute to Uganda's development and transformation," he said. Unlike other forms of gaming, the National Lottery is highly affordable and accessible to every Ugandan, providing equal opportunities to dream and realize those dreams.
ITHUBA offices have been established in various regions, including Kampala, Mbarara, Mbale, and Gulu. Games can also be accessed through authorized shops, the Uganda National Lottery website, or via USSD *278#. Additionally, participants can purchase tickets via Airtel and MTN.
