Executive Director Khalid Jones with Virginia’s 2025 Teacher of the Year. "We contributed $867 million in profit to K-12 public education last year, and over $12 billion directly to our public schools since 1999.
The Lottery was a proud sponsor of the 2025 Virginia Teacher of the Year Program on Monday, May 6, which honors educators who represent the best in teaching in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Executive Director Khalid Jones had the opportunity to share a congratulatory message to the honorees and highlight the Virginia Lottery’s commitment to public education.
"We contributed $867 million in profit to K-12 public education last year, and over $12 billion directly to our public schools since 1999. Those are BIG NUMBERS. This event was a nice in-person reminder of what we do and who we do it for."
A very well deserved congratulations to Virginia’s 2025 Teacher of the Year - Hanover County math teacher Avanti Yamamoto! "I know our big numbers make a big impact and I also know that it only takes one person to do the same," said Jones following the event.
