The Delaware Lottery has revealed its sports-betting and igaming numbers for October 2023, showing an increase in betting activity, but a 19-month low for icasino spending.

The sports-betting handle in October 2023 was $10.7 million, a 40.8% increase on the $7.6 million bet in September 2023. However, the igaming handle of $30.5 million in October 2023 was an 18.7% decrease from the $37.5 million handled in October 2022. This marked a 4.4% increase compared to October 2022.

The year-on-year increase in revenues for sports betting was a smaller jump of around $100,000, from $2.5 million in 2022 to $2.6 million in 2023. However, sports-betting revenues shot up compared to September 2023, growing by 173.1%.

Delaware Park was the leading contributor to both betting handle and revenue, posting a handle of $2.5 million and revenue of $368,904. Meanwhile, Bally’s Dover and Harrington Raceway brought in $1.2 million and $554,958, respectively.

The retail sportsbooks at these three locations, all operated by the Delaware Lottery in combination with 888 Holdings, accounted for around $4.25 million of Delaware’s handle. Another $6.4 million came from bets placed with retailers.

While sports betting saw increases, the year-on-year numbers for igaming decreased significant, posting the lowest handle since February 2022 and a 22.2% decrease from September 2023.

Igaming revenue also took a hit, with an 18% year-on-year decrease and 11% down from September. Contributions to the monthly handle came in the same order of size as sports betting, with Delaware Park adding the most, followed by Bally’s Dover and Harrington Raceway.

This month’s igaming performance comes in light of September’s news that the Delaware Lottery has signed a partnership with Rush Street Interactive to take over responsibility for providing sports betting and casino gambling in the state from 888.
