The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust was pleased to give new scholarships to 106 students and congratulated 45 recently graduated JC Scholars
What does it take to be a leader in our community? Aptitude certainly, but above all a strong commitment to the welfare and betterment of our society.
It was to nurture not only talent, but also compassion, amongst our best and brightest young people that The Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships were established 25 years ago.
To date, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust has disbursed some HK$877 million to more than 1,000 Jockey Club Scholars. Each and every one combines outstanding academic performance with a strong commitment to serving our community.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships are wide-ranging, supporting outstanding undergraduate students at eight UGC-funded local universities and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, as well as those studying at the Vocational Training Council. They also support postgraduates furthering their studies at Harvard University, the University of Cambridge, the University of Oxford and, in the near future, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Tsinghua University and Peking University.
To mark the achievements of Jockey Club Scholars past and present, the Club held a special 25th Anniversary Dinner at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 2 November where it also granted new scholarships to 106 students and congratulated 45 recently graduated Jockey Club Scholars.
Two new scholarships awardees were also announced. The Hong Kong Jockey Club Chairman’s Scholarship supports 15 local, Mainland and overseas students each year who have achieved exceptional academic results. The Hong Kong Jockey Club Striding On Scholarship supports 25 students each year who have demonstrated resilience and strength of mind to overcome adversity or challenges in life to pursue their post-secondary studies in Hong Kong.
The Club’s support for The Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships, like all of its charity donations, is made possible by its unique integrated business model through which racing and wagering generate employment, tax and charity support for the community.
