Best year yet with record $890 million sales year
For the third year in a row, the Colorado Lottery hit record sales with nearly $890 million in revenue, which means another record of more than $195 million in funds raised for proceeds beneficiaries across the state.
Record-setting $1 billion+ Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots drove a large boost for this year's sales, with more than $293 million in sales across all jackpot games (that’s more than $66 million more than goal). Scratch products are the largest revenue generator, selling nearly $597 million.
For every dollar spent on Lottery games:
- 65% goes to prize payouts for players
- 21-24% goes to proceeds partners
- 7-8% goes to Lottery retailers
The Lottery gives back its proceeds to beneficiaries to fund great things all across the state like parks, recreation, open space, wildlife projects and public school construction. Here’s the breakdown in funds this year:
- Great Outdoors Colorado: $75.1 million
- Conservation Trust Fund (CTF): $78 million
- Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW): $19.5 million plus an additional $8.3 million in funding for its Parks/Outdoors Recreation and Wildlife Cash Funds
- Building Excellent Schools Today's (BEST) spillover revenue: $11.3 million
- Outdoor Equity Fund: $2.25 million
“As our revenue grows, so does the Lottery’s dedication to responsibility,” said Tom Seaver, Director of the Colorado Lottery. “Record proceeds also means more support for parks, recreation, open space, and wildlife preservation projects. Responsible revenue growth helps us boost our commitment to helping create the places that make Colorado the best place to live.”
