The estimated jackpot for tonight’s Mega Millions® drawing has been increased to $1.58 billion ($783.3 million cash). If won at that level, it would be the largest jackpot in Mega Millions history, edging the previous record of $1.537 billion, won in South Carolina on October 23, 2018. That was the very first time the game’s jackpot surpassed $1 billion, a level it has reached four subsequent times, including in this current run.
“It’s entertaining for our players, and all of us, to see the Mega Millions jackpot roll to what looks like an all-time game record,” said Georgia Lottery President and CEO Gretchen Corbin, lead director of the Mega Millions Consortium. “As jackpot fever continues to sweep the nation, we remind everyone to play responsibly. We also want to thank our players and retailers for their support, which helps us fund good causes in every Mega Millions jurisdiction.”
Tuesday night’s drawing will be conducted as usual at the WSB-TV studio in Atlanta, Georgia, at 11 p.m. Eastern time. Soon afterwards, the draw video will be available through the Mega Millions website.
The jackpot has been rolling since it was last won in New York on April 18. We always remind players to check their tickets – there are eight prize tiers in addition to the jackpot. In the August 4 drawing alone, there were 5,331,114 winning tickets across all tiers; in this entire jackpot run, there have been more than 36.6 million winning Mega Millions tickets at all prize levels.
Tickets for the $2 game are sold in 45 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. In most jurisdictions, players can add the Megaplier for an additional $1 to multiply their non-jackpot prizes. Half of the proceeds from the sale of each Mega Millions ticket remains in the state where the ticket was sold, where the money supports designated good causes and retailer commissions.
