Austrian lotteries are optimizing the protection of minors and are raising the age limit for lotteries, scratch cards and the like

Effective Monday, July 10, 2023, Austrian Lotteries will raise the age limit for the sale of betting slip games and instant lotteries to 18 years. They are thus optimizing their player and youth protection and are setting another milestone in terms of "responsible gaming".

Playing the lottery, EuroMillions, etc., as well as buying postal and scratch-off tickets, will then only be allowed to those who have reached the age of 18. This is a voluntary self-limitation (as is the case with the age limit of 16, which is still in force at present) and identifies Austrian Lotteries as a socio-politically responsible licensee for lottery games in Austria.

As in the past, the acceptance points are contractually obliged to observe the age limit when selling lottery games and, if necessary, to carry out an ID check.

With this increase in the age limit, there is an adjustment to the class lottery and to win2day. From July 10, 00:00, participation in all Austrian Lotteries games is only permitted to people who have reached the age of 18. This age limit has always applied to participation in the tipp3 sports betting program.

The same applies to the payment of winnings, of course, with the following restriction: Winnings for which the tip or lottery ticket was bought by 16 or 17 year olds before the switch to 18+ will still be paid out to them after the switch . In the case of betting slip games, the purchase date of the receipt is checked. In the case of postal and scratch-off tickets, a win request must be submitted to the Austrian Lotteries. The prize requirement is used to verify that the ticket purchase took place or could have taken place before July 10th. If so, this profit will also be paid out after the changeover. If not, the withdrawal will be rejected.
