Spanish iGaming market grows 29.9% in Q3

Spanish gaming regulator La Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ) has reported a 29.9% increase in total market gross gaming revenue for the third quarter of 2018. 

Total revenue grew to €181.8m, driven by a strong performance from the sports betting vertical. Total sports revenue climbed 27.4% to €97.4m, with amounts wagered growing to €1.6bn. 

Casino also enjoyed a strong quarter, with revenue rising 39.2% to €60.8m, of which €34.2m was generated through online slots. Poker, aided by liquidity pooling with French and Portuguese players, saw revenue rise 35.1% to €19.8m. 

Bingo was up 11.3% year-on-year at €3.1m, though contests - currently only offered by one licensee - saw revenue drop 85% to €318,279. 

Marketing spend also grew during the quarter, rising 56.3% to €75.9m. Almost half this total was spent on advertising, with spending on player bonuses also up. As a result, the average number of active accounts for the quarter was up 30.7% at 812,007. However, new account numbers fell 1.9% to 232,012.
