Public utility, big winner of the year 2023

Loterie Romande continues to assert its essential role in supporting the French-speaking community, with a contribution of 243.7 million francs for the public utility in 2023 (243.4 million in 2022). This record profit, paid to around 5,000 projects in the six French-speaking cantons (Vaud, Fribourg, Valais, Neuchâtel, Geneva, Jura) is all the most important as it takes place in a context where associative actors sometimes struggle to receive funding from public authorities and major bosses. Thus, since its creation in 1937, Loterie Romande has been proud to distribute all of its profits to the fields of health, heritage, social action, sport, training, the environment and tourism. , education and culture.

Meeting economic challenges

The year 2023 was marked by major challenges, linked to the global geopolitical situation, the unfavorable economic situation, the increase in the cost of living as well as the decline in purchasing power. For Swiss Loto and EuroMillions, the absence of long jackpot cycles also posed a challenge in creating interest from casual Loterie Romande players at points of sale. In this context, the gross gaming product, ie the amounts wagered less the winnings paid to players, reached 420.7 million francs (435.5 million in 2022). Thanks in particular to rigorous management of its operating costs, Loterie Romande succeeded in paying a record profit to the public utility in 2023, while successfully launching a new European game, EuroDreams, to strengthen its range of drawing games. .

Support the local economy

With a strong network of 2,400 points of sale in the six French-speaking cantons, Loterie Romande actively supports the local economy. These kiosks, local shops, café-restaurants and service stations must adapt to new consumption patterns, while for some repaying loans taken out during the Covid period. In this context, Loterie Romande attaches particular importance to supporting the players in a local economy by paying in 2023 a total amount of 80 million francs in the form of commissions on sales to remunerate the work of depositaries.

A responsible environment

Loterie Romande develops and operates recreational games while ensuring that minors and vulnerable people are protected against the risks associated with gambling, in accordance with the mission entrusted to us by the legislator. Our program of social measures, examined and approved by the Intercantonal Gambling Supervisory Authority (Gespa), makes it possible to combat excessive gambling, at points of sale and on the online gaming platform. To continue our training and information efforts, we can count on our depositaries as well as the commitment of the 240 employees of Loterie Romande. Convinced of the importance of a quality working environment, Loterie Romande is certified for its commitment to occupational health, training and equal pay.
