Maryland Casinos Generate $178.8 Million in Revenue During May
Casinos contribute $73.4 million to the state
(Baltimore) — Maryland’s six casinos had their second-best month ever in May 2022, combining to generate $178,767,828 in gaming revenue for the month.
The total represents an increase of $6,373,378 (3.7%) compared to May 2021. The May 2022 revenue figure is second only to July 2021, when the casinos generated $180.1 million in gaming revenue.
Casino gaming contributions to the state in May 2022 totaled $73,446,515, an increase of $87,833 (0.1%) compared to May 2021. Contributions to the Education Trust Fund (ETF) in May 2022 were $53,422,753, an increase of $137,334 (0.3%) compared to May 2021. Casino gaming revenues also support the communities and jurisdictions where the casinos are located, Maryland’s horse racing industry, and small, minority- and women-owned businesses.
Maryland’s six privately owned casinos offer both slot machines and table games: MGM National Harbor in Prince George’s County; Live! Casino & Hotel in Anne Arundel County; Horseshoe Casino Baltimore in Baltimore City; Ocean Downs Casino in Worcester County; Hollywood Casino Perryville in Cecil County; and Rocky Gap Casino Resort in Allegany County.
May 2021 was the first month since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic during which capacity restrictions were lifted for all six casinos. MGM National Harbor and Horseshoe Casino were at 50% capacity at the start of that month, but by May 17, 2021, none of the six casinos were operating with capacity limitations.
The gaming revenue totals for May 2022 are as follows:
MGM National Harbor (2,091 slot machines, 210 table games)
$75,964,791 in May 2022, an increase of $7,582,798 (11.1%) from May 2021
Live! Casino & Hotel (3,734 slot machines, 184 table games)
$62,726,883 in May 2022, an increase of $1,331,581 (2.2%) from May 2021
Horseshoe Casino (1,530 slot machines, 143 table games)
$17,681,336 in May 2022, a decrease of $1,843,079 (-9.4%) from May 2021
Ocean Downs Casino (860 slot machines, 18 table games)
$8,508,202 in May 2022, a decrease of $90,517 (-1.1%) from May 2021
Hollywood Casino (713 slot machines, 18 table games)
$8,213,506 in May 2022, a decrease of $275,874 (-3.2%) from May 2021
Rocky Gap Casino (618 slot machines, 16 table games)
$5,673,109 in May 2022, a decrease of $331,531 (-5.5%) from May 2021
