Maryland Casinos Generate $126.2 Million During February

Casinos contribute $53.2 million to the state

(Baltimore) – Maryland’s six casinos generated $126,208,025 in gaming revenue during February of 2021. The total represents a decrease of $25,066,312 (-16.6%) compared to the February 2020 total of $151,274,337. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, four casinos are limited to 50% capacity; MGM National Harbor and Horseshoe Casino are limited to 25% capacity.

Casino gaming contributions to the state in February 2021 totaled $53,194,580, a decrease of $9,679,332 (-15.4%) compared to the $62,873,922 contributed to the state in February 2020.

Contributions to the Education Trust Fund (ETF) in February 2021 were $38,658,856, a decrease of $8,506,668 (-18.0%) compared to the $47,165,524 in ETF contributions during February 2020. Casino gaming revenues also support the communities and jurisdictions where the casinos are located, Maryland’s horse racing industry, and small, minority- and women-owned businesses.

As part of Maryland’s effort to halt the spread of COVID-19, the casinos were closed on March 16, 2020, and began reopening with capacity limitations on June 19, 2020. Casino operators worked with local and state public health officials to develop their reopening protocols. The casinos have implemented social distancing and sanitation procedures, including a requirement that all employees and patrons wear face coverings.

Maryland’s six privately owned casinos offer both slot machines and table games: MGM National Harbor in Prince George’s County; Live! Casino & Hotel in Anne Arundel County; Horseshoe Casino Baltimore in Baltimore City; Ocean Downs Casino in Worcester County; Hollywood Casino Perryville in Cecil County; and Rocky Gap Casino Resort in Allegany County.
