The National Lottery recorded a turnover of €1.553 billion last year, which represents the total stakes of Belgians in its games. It also recorded nearly 319 million gaming moments in 2024 – a record.
The more than €1.5 billion in bets represent an increase compared to the total for 2023, which had stopped at €1.49 billion, the National Lottery reported during a press conference on Thursday.
"This is an impressive figure, a record, in a trend of modest but sustainable growth from year to year," said Jannie Haek, Managing Director and Chairman of the Management Committee.
The National Lottery has been growing at an average annual rate of 2.7% since 2014. Still, the company remains a small player in the Belgian gambling sector. It only represents 4% of the total turnover of the sector – which is also expanding rapidly.
During the 318.9 million gaming moments in 2024, Belgians bet €4.9 on average, as in 2023. Players also benefited from 108.7 million winning moments for a total amount of €1.057 billion.
The National Lottery also made 63 new millionaires last year.
