GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This position requires independent judgment while performing technical, analytical and critical thinking related to business development and retailer recruitment at the Florida Lottery. The primary duties of this position involve securing new business opportunities for the sale of Lottery products statewide. These duties will include the development of retailer recruitment initiatives and new product distribution channels. The workload of this position is consistently heavy and fast paced. The incumbent should be able to work well under pressure and deadlines. The incumbent assigned to this position is responsible for, but not limited to, carrying out the duties described below.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Works on projects related to new business development and product distribution options available to the Florida Lottery.
  • Develops and implements plans, proposals and strategies to recruit and close new businesses.
  • Compiles and analyzes research and data to improve Florida Lottery product distribution and the retailer network.
  • Develops and assists with the implementation of retailer recruitment and retention plans that will identify, retain and increase the Lottery’s customer base.
  • Develops lists of potential or prospective Lottery retailers from information obtained through research.
  • Assists with the development of annual business development plans to achieve annual sales goals.
  • Develops marketing initiatives to attract inquiries from prospective Lottery retailers and customers.
  • Assists in developing new markets for Lottery products or expanding existing markets through new product distribution options or technology.
  • Telephones or meets directly with prospective retailers with volume sales potential.
  • Works with prospective retailers to assist with the applications process and serves as a liaison between district sales offices and Retailer Contracting and other divisions to facilitate an expedient turnaround time on prospective retailer applications as necessary.
  • Develops special promotion and incentive programs for new and prospective retailers.
  • Prepares and sends reports to executive staff.
  • Performs other work as required to ensure smooth functioning of the division.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
  • Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the position.

  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication.
  • Knowledge of the techniques of compiling and analyzing research.
  • Knowledge of project planning and evaluation techniques.
  • Ability to review, analyze, evaluate and interpret data.

  • Ability to provide technical assistance and advice to business groups.
  • Ability to design and develop promotional and incentive programs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to work independently while handling multiple tasks.

  • Ability to prepare correspondence and reports.    
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail oriented, with the ability to recognize, diagnose and resolve issues.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including but not limited to Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Word.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

An associate degree from an accredited college or university in business, marketing, research or related field and at least three (3) years of professional sales or administrative experience.

 

Professional and nonprofessional experience in sales, sales support, or marketing may be substituted for the required college education.

 

Combinations of college coursework and experience as described above may also be substituted for the required college education. College coursework will be considered the equivalent of experience at the rate of thirty (30) semester or forty-five (45) quarter hours on a year for year basis.
