The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission issued a sports wagering license to the Ocean Downs Casino in Berlin on Friday, meaning it is now able to conduct sports gambling operations.
Prior to receiving the license, Ocean Downs successfully completed two days of controlled demonstrations in which guests participated in live wagering as Maryland Lottery and Gaming staff ensured the facility complied with all required procedures, and that its systems and revenue reporting controls functioned properly.
Sports betting at Ocean Downs was first approved in November by the Sports Wagering Application Review Commission, which voted 5-2 for licenses at Ocean Downs and four other casinos across Maryland. Now, a month later, Ocean Downs has received its sports wagering license.
Ocean Downs Casino is one of 17 entities that were designated in the sports wagering law to conduct sports wagering operations, pending a review of their qualifications, and is the fourth facility to launch sports betting so far.
