Veikkaus' co-operation negotiations completed - the goal is to ensure viable Veikkaus in the future as well

Sustainability measures have reduced the volume of play in Veikkaus' physical sales channels by about 40 percent, and Veikkaus must adjust its operations accordingly

Veikkaus' co-operation negotiations, which began at the beginning of August, have been completed. They were driven by changes in the company's operating environment and declining business volume, especially in physical sales channels.

Sustainability measures have reduced the volume of play in Veikkaus' physical sales channels by about 40 percent, and Veikkaus must adjust its operations accordingly.

- Our goal is to renew and build a forward-looking, strongly vibrant Veikkaus: a responsible, modern and efficient company with the support of Finns, says Jari Heino , Director of Channels and Sales .

About 830 people were involved in the negotiations.

- In addition to the actual negotiations, the guidelines for the future and the areas to be developed have been discussed with the personnel in several presentations, discussions and personnel information. Staff feedback and development suggestions were abundant and have been utilized in the design work where possible. Unfortunately, the adjustment of operations also means that the work of about 125–190 Veikkaus employees ends in Veikkaus, Heino says.

The exact number of terminating employment relationships is also affected by, among other things, decisions on accepting new job positions and titles offered to employees, as well as possible internal transfers within the company.

In addition, the terms and conditions of employment of about 50 employees and about 60-110 employees will change significantly. The new organization will take effect in January 2022 at the latest.

It is estimated that cost savings of approximately EUR 15 million will be generated by 2024 through streamlining operations and adjusting the number of employees. A significant part of the savings also consists of the fact that Veikkaus will close about 15 of its own gaming halls, the profitability of which will be reduced too low through responsibility measures.

Information on the gaming halls to be closed will be published on Veikkaus' website when more detailed closing times are known.

- The reforms are designed so that change support is available to those leaving the company. In principle, most of the Veikkaus employees who were involved in the negotiations are offered new positions within the company. For example, Casino Tampere, which opens in December, still needs several dozen gambling and customer service professionals. The responsible casino of the new era will provide a good framework and a job for many. Now it is important to look ahead and ensure Veikkaus' vitality today and tomorrow, Heino says.
