New game lets lottery players have a ‘BIG SPIN’ for half a million dollars

RALEIGH –The North Carolina Education Lottery’s new game begins with a scratch-off ticket and ends with a  “BIG SPIN” for half a million dollars.

The BIG SPIN scratch-off ticket launches Tuesday, Oct. 1. It’s a first of its kind game, in North Carolina, and has multiple ways to win. Players can win a cash prize instantly, or get directed to a website where they can spin a digital wheel and win a cash prize or a BIG SPIN.

If players win a BIG SPIN, they get to head to a TV studio where they’ll take part in a live event. They receive an overnight stay in Raleigh and $100 in spending money. When they arrive at the studio, a host and audience will cheer them on as they test their luck by spinning the prize wheel. Players, who spin the wheel, are guaranteed to win at least $100,000 but could win up to $500,000.

“We’re taking the thrill of winning to a new level,” Mark Michalko, executive director of the N.C. Education Lottery said. “In addition to winning a big prize, our players are getting a once-in-a-lifetime experience of being part of a live event where they try their luck to win even more.”

The $5 ticket has eight BIG SPIN prizes. It also offers three $100,000 instant prizes.

Ticket sales from draw games like The BIG SPIN make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $700 million a year for education. For details on how lottery funds have helped all of North Carolina’s 100 counties, click on the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website.
