The Board voted 5-0 to accept a lottery evaluation committee’s recommendation of Scientific Games International as the vendor that will supply the communications equipment, software, and computerized terminals that are used to sell and validate lottery tickets at about 2,500 retail locations statewide.  The Iowa Lottery received bids for its system from Scientific Games; INTRALOT Inc., based in Duluth, Ga.; and GTECH Corp., based in Providence, R.I. There were 1,000 points possible within the Iowa Lottery’s RFP and Sci-Games received the highest technical score as well as the best pricing score.

“While the word is overused, the Hoosier Lottery conversion was truly flawless,” said Michael Chambrello, President and Chief Executive Officer of Scientific Games. “Thanks to the Hoosier Lottery’s exemplary partnership, conversion planning and execution was seamless. Together we have set a new standard for conversion that is virtually invisible to the retailer and the player and has no impact on the Lottery’s day-to-day operations.”

Lottery sales at the West Virginia State Fair broke last year’s record. In nine days, the fair sold eight times the number of instant tickets than the Lottery’s number two retailer sold in an entire month. Lottery Director John Musgrave credited the one-day Mega MONOPOLY™ Madness game for part of player enthusiasm.  “The live board game was a tremendous success,” he said.  “We had 240 participants, who entered by purchasing $20 in lottery products from the State Fair; we gave away 23,000 promotional tickets and paid more than $13,000 in cash prizes to the players.”
