The Kansas Star Casino in Mulvane netted $15.1 million in gambling revenue in May, according to the Kansas Lottery. That was up from the $14.5 million that gamblers spent at the casino in April.
The casino’s top month so far is March, with $16.8 million in revenue from slot machines and gaming tables.
Since it opened on Dec. 20, the Kansas Star, located at the Mulvane exit off the Kansas Turnpike south of Wichita, has generated $84.5 million in gambling revenue, according to the Lottery. Of that money, $18.6 million, or 22 percent, has gone to the state, as mandated by the state’s expanding gaming law.
The city of Mulvane and Sumner and Sedgwick counties each have received 1 percent of the revenue, or $845,000.
The state’s problem gambling and addictions fund, administered by the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation services, has received $1.7 million from the casino. The casino’s manager, Peninsula Gaming of Dubuque, Iowa, has kept $61.7 million, or 73 percent.
The casino has been operating in an interim arena facility with 1,411 slot machines, 32 gaming tables and a five-table poker room. It plans to open its permanent casino in January with additional gaming, a hotel and more dining options. The final phase, scheduled to open in 2014, is scheduled to include an equestrian center, shows and concerts.
Las Vegas-based Boyd Gaming last month announced plans to purchase the Kansas Star and four other Peninsula Gaming casinos for $1.45 billion in a deal to be completed by February.
