IN MEMORIAM: AGA CEO Statement on Passing of Senator Harry Reid

American Gaming Association (AGA) President and CEO Bill Miller issued the following statement on the passing of Senator Harry Reid:

From his days as chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission to tenure as Majority Leader, Senator Reid’s impact on Nevada and the gaming industry is unparalleled. He was the ultimate gaming champion.

I’m grateful for having known the Senator throughout my career in Washington, D.C. Without a shadow of a doubt, Senator Reid was one of the sharpest, most effective political minds to ever enter the arena.

On behalf of the AGA, our condolences to his wife, family and friends. May his memory be a blessing.

Bill MillerCEO and president of the American Gaming Association, has called late senator Harry Reid, the “ultimate gaming champion”, following his death aged 82. 

Reid, who died on December 28, was said to have passed away “peacefully” and “surrounded by family” according to a statement from his wife, Landra Reid

Issuing a statement himself on Reid’s death, Miller noted: “From his days as chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission to tenure as majority leader, senator Reid’s impact on Nevada and the gaming industry is unparalleled. He was the ultimate gaming champion.

“I’m grateful for having known the senator throughout my career in Washington, DC Without a shadow of a doubt, senator Reid was one of the sharpest, most effective political minds to ever enter the arena.

“On behalf of the AGA, our condolences to his wife, family and friends. May his memory be a blessing.”

Reid passed away following a four-year battle with pancreatic cancer with his wife expressing “we are so proud of the legacy he leaves behind both on a national stage and his beloved Nevada”.

Her full statement read: “I am heartbroken to announce the passing of my husband, former senate majority leader Harry Reid. He died peacefully this afternoon, surrounded by our family, following a courageous, four-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Harry was 82 years old. We were married for 62 years. 

“We are so proud of the legacy he leaves behind both on the national stage and his beloved Nevada. Harry was deeply touched to see his decades of service to Nevada honoured in recent weeks with the renaming of Las Vegas’ airport in his honour. 

“Harry was a devout family man and deeply loyal friend. We greatly appreciate the outpouring of support from so many over these past few years. We are especially grateful for the doctors and nurses that cared for him. Please know that it meant the world to him.”

Less than two weeks ago, officials and one of his sons, Rory Reid, marked the renaming of the busy Las Vegas airport as Harry Reid international airport.
